Morehead, KY.

Morehead is the seat of Rowan County and the main service town on I-64 between Lexington and the Ashland/Huntington industrial corridor. Two interstate interchanges serve the city, and they carry the east-west freight moving between the Ohio Valley and the eastern seaboard. Morehead State University, a regional hospital and the Cave Run Lake recreation traffic add a layer of local, seasonal and RV volume on top of the through-truck base, and the terrain, this is where the Kentucky hills start in earnest, shapes every call.

Morehead is where I-64 stops being flat. West of here the interstate runs across the bluegrass; east of here it climbs into the hills toward the Ashland corridor. That transition shows up in our call log as brake and cooling work, because a truck that has run easy for eighty miles suddenly has to work. The two Morehead interchanges are the practical service points for a long rural stretch of interstate in both directions. When it does happen on the mainline, the rolling grades and curves shorten sight distance and traffic control comes first.

The local layer is university, hospital and recreation traffic.
