Buick Roadside

Need Roadside Assistance For Your Buick?

Quiet cars with a few sharp edges: no spare on many of them, all-wheel drive that rules out a wheel lift, and a remote unlock that can end a lockout call before anyone drives out.

What This Is

Buick roadside help, dispatched nationwide

Road Rescue Network dispatches 24/7 roadside help for Buick. Mechanically these share their platforms and electronics with Chevrolet and GMC, so the same OnStar remote unlock, the same 12V behaviour and the same all-wheel-drive towing rules apply. What catches Buick owners specifically is discovering there is no spare in the car.

The Vehicle

Who builds a Buick, and why it changes the rescue

Buick sells crossovers on General Motors platforms shared with Chevrolet, so the mechanical answers are usually the same ones. What differs is the customer. Buick skews older, and the calls skew toward lockouts, batteries and low tyres rather than collisions.

Buick is a division of the American automobile manufacturer, General Motors (GM). Started by automotive pioneer David Dunbar Buick in 1899, it was among the first American automobile brands and was the company that established General Motors in 1908. Before the establishment of General Motors, GM founder William C. Durant had served as Buick's general manager and major investor. With the demise of Oldsmobile in 2004, Buick became the oldest surviving American automobile brand.Buick on Wikipedia

Why A Buick Is Different

What a rescuer has to know before they roll on a Buick

These are the things that go wrong when a Buick gets whichever truck was closest instead of the right one.

Most of them carry a compressor, not a spare

Encore, Envision and much of the range ship with a sealant and inflator kit rather than a wheel. That is fine for a nail and useless for a sidewall, and on the larger wheel sizes a replacement is not something every tire truck has aboard.

The car may unlock itself before a truck is needed

Buicks with OnStar or the myBuick app can often be unlocked remotely. On a keys-inside call that is worth trying first, and we will say so. It does not work if the 12V battery is dead, because the car has to be able to receive the command.

All-wheel drive rules out the cheap tow

All-wheel-drive Enclaves and Envisions need a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. Towing one with a pair of wheels turning risks the driveline, and it is a common shortcut when whoever arrived brought the wrong truck.

It is often an older driver on the shoulder

A meaningful share of Buick calls involve drivers who should not be standing beside a live traffic lane in the dark. We ask, and where it matters we prioritise the call and tell the driver to stay belted inside the vehicle until the truck arrives.

What We Handle

The Buick calls we take

Flat tire with no spare

Sealant where the puncture allows it, or a correct-size tire brought to the vehicle.

Lockout

Opened without damage, after a remote-unlock attempt where the car can still receive it.

Jumpstart and battery

Jump, load test and on-site replacement.

Towing

Flatbed for all-wheel-drive models, wheel-lift where it is safe on front-drive cars.

Fuel delivery

Fuel brought to the vehicle rather than a tow to a station.

Before The Truck Arrives

How a Buick has to be moved

Worth reading to whoever shows up, whether or not we sent them.

Front-wheel-drive Buicks can be moved with the drive wheels lifted. All-wheel-drive models belong on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. A dead car with an electronic parking brake will not roll and needs skates.

FAQ

Buick roadside questions

Is there a spare in my Buick?

On most of the current range, no. There is a sealant and compressor kit instead, which handles a puncture in the tread and not a damaged sidewall. If the tire is cut, we bring a matching one rather than sending you out on sealant that will not hold.

I locked my keys inside. Do I have to wait for a truck?

Maybe not. If the car still has power and an active OnStar or app connection, it can often be unlocked remotely in a couple of minutes. Try that first. If the battery is flat the car cannot hear the command and a rescuer comes out.

Can my all-wheel-drive Enclave be towed on two wheels?

It should not be. All-wheel drive wants all four wheels off the ground, which means a flatbed. Towing it with wheels turning risks the driveline, and that repair costs far more than the difference between the two trucks.
