Chevrolet Roadside

Need Roadside Assistance For Your Chevy?

A Silverado with the spare winched under the bed, a Suburban full of people, a Corvette that will not clear a standard ramp, or a Bolt that has to ride on a bed. Different problems, one number.

What This Is

Chevrolet roadside help, dispatched nationwide

Road Rescue Network dispatches 24/7 roadside help across the Chevrolet range, from half-ton and heavy-duty pickups to Suburbans, Equinoxes, Corvettes and the electric Bolt and Blazer. Chevrolet shares most of its running gear with GMC, Buick and Cadillac, so the failure patterns repeat across all four and our rescuers see them constantly.

The Vehicle

Who builds a Chevy, and why it changes the rescue

Chevrolet spans more ground than almost any other make on this list, from a Trax to a 3500HD dually, which means the word Chevrolet tells a dispatcher very little until the model comes with it. The heavy duty Silverados in particular are a different recovery job from the half tons that share the name and much of the sheet metal.

Chevrolet is an American automobile division of the manufacturer General Motors (GM). In North America, Chevrolet produces and sells a wide range of vehicles, from subcompact automobiles to medium-duty commercial trucks. Due to the prominence and name recognition of Chevrolet as one of General Motors' global marques, "Chevrolet" or its affectionate nickname Chevy is used at times as a synonym for General Motors or its products, one example being the GM LS1 engine, commonly known by the name or a variant thereof of its progenitor, the Chevrolet small-block engine.Chevrolet on Wikipedia

Why A Chevy Is Different

What a rescuer has to know before they roll on a Chevy

These are the things that go wrong when a Chevy gets whichever truck was closest instead of the right one.

OnStar can sometimes end the call before it starts

Most modern Chevrolets can be unlocked remotely through OnStar or the myChevrolet app, even with a subscription lapsed in some cases. On a keys-locked-inside call that is worth trying before anyone drives to you, and we will say so rather than quietly billing a lockout. It does not help if the 12V battery is flat, because the car has to be awake to receive the command.

The spare hangs under the bed and the winch corrodes

Silverado and Suburban carry the spare beneath the vehicle on a cable winch operated through the rear bumper, and on some trims behind a lock cylinder that needs the key. Salt seizes the mechanism, so a driver with a good spare can be completely unable to reach it. Rescuers carry what it takes to get it down.

A collapsed lifter reads as a breakdown, not a service item

V8 engines with cylinder deactivation are known for lifter failure, which arrives as a sudden violent misfire, a hard tick and a car that will not run properly or will not start. It is not a roadside repair. Knowing that early saves an hour of diagnosis on the shoulder and gets the vehicle moved to a shop instead.

Corvette will not go up a normal ramp

Front clearance on a Corvette, particularly a Z06 or one with the front splitter, is low enough that a standard flatbed approach angle will take the nose off. It needs wood, extended ramps or a low-angle bed, and where fitted the front lift system should be raised before loading. Tell dispatch it is a Corvette and the right truck comes.

Duramax trucks stop themselves on fluid, not faults

Heavy-duty Duramax pickups derate and then refuse to restart on an empty diesel exhaust fluid tank or a blocked exhaust filter. Fluid delivered on-site and a completed regeneration usually puts the truck straight back to work.

What We Handle

The Chevy calls we take

Lockout

Chevrolet lockouts opened without damaging the frame, plus a remote-unlock attempt through OnStar first where the vehicle is awake enough to receive it.

Flat tire and stuck spare

Freeing the under-bed spare winch, fitting the spare, or bringing a correct-size tire where the spare is unusable or the wheel needs the lock key.

Jumpstart and battery

Jump at the correct posts, load-testing and on-site replacement, including the trucks and SUVs where the battery sits awkwardly under trim.

Fuel and DEF delivery

Gasoline, diesel and exhaust fluid brought to the vehicle with a restart attempt on-site.

Towing and recovery

Flatbed for all-wheel drive, electric and low-clearance models, wheel-lift where it is safe, and winch-outs from ditches, snow and soft ground.

Before The Truck Arrives

How a Chevy has to be moved

Worth reading to whoever shows up, whether or not we sent them.

Front-wheel-drive Chevrolet cars and crossovers can be moved with the drive wheels lifted. Four-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, every electric model and every Corvette belong on a flatbed. Corvettes and lowered trucks need extended ramps or wood to clear the approach. A dead vehicle with an electronic parking brake will not roll and needs skates.

FAQ

Chevy roadside questions

Can you get into my Chevy without damaging it?

Yes. Chevrolet lockouts are opened with proper tools rather than by prying the door frame. If your vehicle is still awake, it may also be unlockable remotely through OnStar or the app, and we will tell you to try that first rather than charge you for a truck you did not need.

My Silverado has a flat and the spare will not come down.

The winch cable under the bed corrodes and seizes, which is common anywhere they salt the roads. Some trims also need the key for a lock cylinder in the bumper. A rescuer can free it or safely cut the carrier down, and will bring a matching tire if the spare turns out to be unusable.

Does my Corvette need a special truck?

It needs a flatbed and it needs the right approach. Front clearance is low enough that a standard ramp angle can damage the nose or splitter, so it wants extended ramps, wood or a low-angle bed, and the front lift raised where the car has it. Say Corvette when you call and that is what gets dispatched.

Can a Bolt or Blazer EV be towed normally?

No. Every electric Chevrolet should go on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. Towing an EV with drive wheels turning on the road can damage the drive unit, and there is no neutral to roll it in once the vehicle is fully dead.
