Dodge Roadside

Need Roadside Assistance For Your Dodge?

Rear-wheel drive, wide tires, and on a lot of them no spare at all. A Charger or Challenger on the shoulder is usually a tire call that turns into a tow because nobody carries the size.

What This Is

Dodge roadside help, dispatched nationwide

Road Rescue Network dispatches 24/7 roadside help for Dodge cars and SUVs. The Charger and Challenger have a specific problem: staggered, wide, low-profile tires that most roadside trucks do not stock, and an inflator kit in place of a spare. Getting the size on the call is what decides whether you are driving away or riding on a bed.

The Vehicle

Who builds a Dodge, and why it changes the rescue

Dodge is now a performance brand rather than a full line, and the Charger and Challenger put large displacement engines on ordinary driveways. The practical problem is geometry, not power. Wide rear tyres and a low front air dam decide whether a conventional truck can load one without taking the front of it off.

Dodge is an American brand of automobiles and a division of Stellantis, based in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Dodge vehicles have historically included performance cars, and for much of its existence, Dodge was Chrysler's mid-priced brand above Plymouth. The Dodge main factory operated in Hamtramck, Michigan, from 1910 until it closed in January 1980.Dodge on Wikipedia

Why A Dodge Is Different

What a rescuer has to know before they roll on a Dodge

These are the things that go wrong when a Dodge gets whichever truck was closest instead of the right one.

There is an inflator kit where the spare should be

Many Chargers and Challengers ship with a sealant and compressor kit instead of a spare wheel, and performance trims are the most likely to have nothing at all. Sealant handles a tread puncture and does nothing for a sidewall or a blowout, which is the failure these cars actually have.

The rear tires are wider than the fronts and nobody stocks them

Wide-body and performance models run a staggered setup, so a rear tire is not interchangeable with a front and the sizes are not the ones a general tire truck carries. Reading the full size off the sidewall when you call is the single most useful thing you can do, because it determines whether a tire can be brought to you.

Front clearance on SRT models fights a standard ramp

Performance Dodges sit low at the nose with a front lip that a normal flatbed approach angle will catch. They want extended ramps, wood or a low-angle bed. It is the same problem a Corvette has and it is solved the same way, by saying so at dispatch.

Rear-wheel drive and a lot of power is a winter recovery pattern

These cars get stuck on grades, in snow and on wet grass in ways an all-wheel-drive sedan does not, and often only inches from the pavement. Many of those calls are a short winch rather than a tow, which is a much cheaper outcome if the right truck turns up.

What We Handle

The Dodge calls we take

Flat tire with no spare

Sealant where the puncture allows it, or a correct-size tire brought to the vehicle. Staggered and wide-body sizes are confirmed on the call before anyone rolls.

Towing

Flatbed transport with extended ramps or wood for low-clearance SRT and wide-body models.

Winch-out and recovery

Snow, grass, grades and soft shoulders, which is where rear-drive Dodges spend their winters.

Jumpstart, lockout and fuel

Jump and battery replacement, lockouts opened without damage, and fuel brought to the vehicle.

Before The Truck Arrives

How a Dodge has to be moved

Worth reading to whoever shows up, whether or not we sent them.

Rear-wheel-drive Chargers and Challengers can be moved with the drive wheels lifted, but a flatbed is the safe default and is required for all-wheel-drive versions. Low-nose SRT and wide-body cars need a shallow approach, extended ramps or wood, or the front lip pays for it. A Durango with all-wheel drive belongs on a bed.

FAQ

Dodge roadside questions

My Challenger has a flat and there is no spare in the trunk.

That is normal on a lot of them. There is usually a sealant and compressor kit, which will handle a nail in the tread and will not handle a sidewall cut or a blowout. Read the whole size off the tire sidewall when you call, especially if the car is wide-body, because the rears are a size most trucks do not carry and we need to source it before rolling.

Will a normal tow truck damage the front of my SRT?

It can, if it comes with a standard ramp angle. The nose sits low and the front lip catches. Say the trim when you call and the truck that arrives will have extended ramps, wood or a low-angle bed.

I slid off into the grass. Is that a tow?

Often it is just a winch, which costs far less. Rear-wheel drive with that much power gets stuck a few feet off the pavement all winter. Tell dispatch how far off you are and whether the car is level and undamaged.
