Need Roadside Assistance For Your GMC?
Sierra, Yukon, Savana or Hummer EV. Same family as Chevrolet under the skin, with two twists that catch out the wrong truck: air suspension that drops on the bump stops, and an electric Hummer heavier than most flatbeds are rated for.

GMC roadside help, dispatched nationwide
Road Rescue Network dispatches 24/7 roadside help for the GMC range. Mechanically most of it is shared with Chevrolet, so the under-bed spare winch, the deactivation-lifter failures and the Duramax fluid lockouts all read the same. What is specific to GMC is at the top and bottom of the range: Denali air suspension, and the sheer mass of the Hummer EV.
Who builds a GMC, and why it changes the rescue
GMC sells largely the same trucks as Chevrolet with different sheet metal and a more expensive interior, which helps a rescuer because the mechanical answers carry straight across. The Savana vans and cutaways are the exception. They behave like the commercial vehicles they are, especially once a box or a service body is on the back.
GMC is a division of American automotive manufacturer General Motors (GM) for trucks and utility vehicles. GMC currently makes SUVs, pickup trucks, vans, and light-duty trucks. In the past, GMC also produced fire trucks, ambulances, heavy-duty trucks, military vehicles, motorhomes, transit buses, and medium duty trucks.GMC on Wikipedia

What a rescuer has to know before they roll on a GMC
These are the things that go wrong when a GMC gets whichever truck was closest instead of the right one.
The Hummer EV is heavier than a lot of flatbeds are rated for
An electric Hummer weighs in the region of nine thousand pounds before anything is loaded into it, which is more than some light-duty rollbacks can legally or safely carry. It also cannot be towed with wheels turning and cannot be shifted to a rolling neutral once dead. Sending the right truck the first time is the entire job on this vehicle, and it is why we ask what model before dispatching.
Denali air suspension parks itself on the ground
Adaptive air-ride models settle when the system loses pressure or the vehicle sits dead, which cuts ground clearance and defeats a normal loading angle. A Yukon or Sierra Denali sitting visibly low is usually the suspension doing what it does with no power rather than evidence of a crash.
The spare is under the truck on a corroding winch
Sierra and Yukon carry the spare beneath the vehicle on the same cable winch as their Chevrolet twins, reached through the rear bumper and on some trims behind a lock cylinder. Salt seizes it, and a driver with a serviceable spare frequently cannot get it down without help.
Savana is a commercial van and gets dispatched like one
Cutaway, box and upfitted Savanas carry weight and height that a light-duty wrecker is not built for. We dispatch on the body and the load, not the badge.
The GMC calls we take
Towing and heavy transport
Flatbed for four-wheel drive, air-ride and electric models, with equipment matched to weight for Hummer EV and loaded Savanas.
Flat tire and stuck spare
Freeing the under-bed winch, fitting the spare, or delivering a correct-size tire including the large-diameter wheels on Denali trims.
Lockout
GMC lockouts opened without damage, with a remote-unlock attempt through OnStar or the app first where the vehicle can still receive it.
Jumpstart and battery
Jump at the correct points and on-site replacement, including the 12V on the electric models, which is what usually strands them.
Fuel, DEF and winch-outs
Fuel and exhaust fluid delivered to the vehicle, plus recovery from snow, ditches and soft ground taken from rated points.
How a GMC has to be moved
Worth reading to whoever shows up, whether or not we sent them.
Four-wheel drive, air-ride and electric GMCs belong on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. A Hummer EV needs a truck rated for its weight, and it will not roll into position once it is fully dead, so plan for skates. An air-ride Yukon or Sierra sitting on its stops needs a shallow approach or extended ramps.

GMC roadside questions
Can any tow truck take a Hummer EV?
No, and this is the thing to say when you call. It weighs around nine thousand pounds, which is beyond what some light-duty rollbacks should carry, and like every EV it has to travel with all four wheels off the ground. Naming the model at dispatch is what gets a truck that can legally and safely do it.
My Denali is sitting on the ground. Is it broken?
Usually not in the way it looks. Air suspension settles when the system loses pressure or the vehicle has been dead for a while. It does mean the loading angle is tighter than normal, so the rescuer may need extended ramps or wood to get it up without contact.
The spare under my Sierra will not come down.
That winch corrodes, and on some trims there is also a lock cylinder in the bumper that needs your key. A rescuer can free it or cut the carrier down safely, and will bring a matching tire if the spare is not usable.
Do you cover Savana box trucks and cutaways?
Yes. Those are commercial vehicles and get commercial equipment. Tell dispatch the body type and whether it is loaded, because that changes which truck can take it.
GMC and its model names are trademarks of their owner. Road Rescue Network is an independent nationwide dispatch network and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an authorised agent of GMC. We name the make because it is what our rescuers service.
GMC down right now?
One number reaches a live dispatcher. Tell them the model and what it is doing, and the truck that leaves is the one that can actually take your car.
