Need Roadside Assistance For Your Honda?
A dead Honda will not come out of park, which is why a car that only needed a jump ends up being dragged. There is a release for that, and knowing where it is saves the tow.

Honda roadside help, dispatched nationwide
Road Rescue Network dispatches 24/7 roadside help for the Honda range. Most Honda calls are simple: a battery that gave up earlier than it should have, a puncture on a car that carries a repair kit instead of a spare, or keys locked in. The one thing that turns a simple call complicated is a vehicle that will not shift out of park once the battery is flat.
Who builds a Honda, and why it changes the rescue
Honda builds most of its range as transverse engined front drive, which makes the front wheels the driven ones on nearly everything with the badge. That is the fact that decides a tow. The all wheel drive versions of the CR-V and Pilot change the answer, so the trim matters before the truck is dispatched.

What a rescuer has to know before they roll on a Honda
These are the things that go wrong when a Honda gets whichever truck was closest instead of the right one.
A dead Honda will not leave park without the shift-lock release
With no power the shifter is held in park by an interlock, so the car cannot be rolled or winched onto a bed normally. There is a small release, usually a covered slot beside the shifter, that frees it. A rescuer who knows about it moves the car in a minute. One who does not reaches for skates or drags it.
The 12V batteries are small and die early
Odyssey, Pilot and Accord in particular are known for a battery that gives up well before the mileage suggests it should, often with no warning at all beyond a slow crank the previous morning. It is the single most common Honda call and it is usually solved on-site with a replacement rather than a tow.
Many carry a repair kit rather than a spare
Newer Civics, CR-Vs and hybrids ship with sealant and a compressor. It works on a tread puncture and does nothing for a sidewall. Larger trims also run wheel sizes a general tire truck may not stock, so the size gets confirmed on the call.
All-wheel-drive CR-V and Pilot need a bed
Real-time all-wheel-drive models should travel with all four wheels off the ground. Front-drive Civics and Accords are more forgiving, but the flatbed is the answer that is correct for every Honda on the road.
The Honda calls we take
Jumpstart and battery replacement
Jump, load test and on-site replacement, which is what most Honda calls actually need.
Shift-lock release and recovery
Freeing a dead car from park so it can be moved properly instead of dragged.
Flat tire
Sealant where the puncture allows it, or a correct-size tire brought to the vehicle.
Lockout
Opened without damaging the door frame, including the keyless models.
Towing and fuel delivery
Flatbed for all-wheel drive and hybrids, and fuel brought to the vehicle.
How a Honda has to be moved
Worth reading to whoever shows up, whether or not we sent them.
All-wheel-drive Hondas and every hybrid or electric model belong on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. Front-wheel-drive cars can be moved with the drive wheels lifted. If the car is completely dead it will not come out of park until the shift-lock release is used, so a rescuer who arrives without knowing that will struggle to load it cleanly.

Honda roadside questions
My Honda is dead and stuck in park. Is it broken?
No. With no power the shifter is locked in place by design. There is a shift-lock release, normally a small covered slot beside the shifter, that frees it so the car can be moved. Tell dispatch the car is dead and will not shift and the rescuer will arrive expecting it.
My battery is only three years old and it died anyway.
That is a very common Honda story, particularly on Odyssey, Pilot and Accord. These batteries frequently fail earlier than the mileage suggests and often with almost no warning. It is normally fixed on the spot with a jump and a replacement rather than a tow.
Is there a spare in my CR-V?
On many newer ones, no, just sealant and a compressor. That handles a nail in the tread and will not fix a cut sidewall. Read the size off the tire when you call and we can bring a matching one out if the sealant will not hold.

Honda down right now?
One number reaches a live dispatcher. Tell them the model and what it is doing, and the truck that leaves is the one that can actually take your car.
