Kia Roadside

Need Roadside Assistance For Your Kia?

Same two stories as its sister brand and for the same engineering reasons: cars that will not start after somebody got in, and engines that stopped without warning. Both are transport calls.

What This Is

Kia roadside help, dispatched nationwide

Road Rescue Network dispatches 24/7 roadside help for Kia. These share engines, transmissions and electrical architecture with Hyundai, so the two dominant call types are identical: theft damage that leaves the car unable to start, and abrupt engine failure on certain models. Everything else is ordinary roadside work.

The Vehicle

Who builds a Kia, and why it changes the rescue

Kia shares engineering with Hyundai and the same E-GMP platform underneath the EV models, so the recovery answers largely carry across between the two brands. What does not carry across is the badge on the key: a Kia owner will not know their car is mechanically a Hyundai, and it is not useful to tell them.

Why A Kia Is Different

What a rescuer has to know before they roll on a Kia

These are the things that go wrong when a Kia gets whichever truck was closest instead of the right one.

Theft damage that stops the car starting

A large run of models built through roughly 2011 to 2021 shipped without an engine immobiliser and became a widely publicised target. The result is usually a smashed window, a wrecked ignition or column, and a car that will not crank. It needs a tow and a locksmith or dealer rather than a battery truck. Ask your dealer about the free security software update if you have not had it.

Some engines fail suddenly and are covered

Certain Theta engines have knocked, stalled and refused to restart, with extended warranty coverage attached in many cases. If that happened, stop cranking. Preserving the engine as it is matters for the claim as well as the repair.

Telluride and Carnival are large and usually loaded

These carry people, often a lot of them. A stranded Telluride is a passenger problem as much as a vehicle one, and we ask how many people are with the vehicle because that changes what needs to be sent.

EV6 is an 800-volt electric vehicle

Flatbed with all four wheels off the ground, no rolling neutral once fully dead, and a 12V battery that is the usual reason one appears lifeless.

What We Handle

The Kia calls we take

Theft-damage transport

Moving a car that will not start after a break-in without compounding damage to the column.

Engine failure transport

Flatbed for a seized or stalled engine, with advice to stop cranking it.

Flat tire and lockout

Correct-size tires delivered where the kit will not do it, and lockouts opened without damage.

Jumpstart and battery

Jump, test and replace on-site, including the 12V on EV6 and Niro.

Towing and fuel delivery

Flatbed for all-wheel drive and electric models, and fuel brought to the vehicle.

Before The Truck Arrives

How a Kia has to be moved

Worth reading to whoever shows up, whether or not we sent them.

All-wheel-drive Kias and every electric model belong on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. Front-wheel-drive cars can be moved with the drive wheels lifted, unless the ignition or column is damaged. Do not keep cranking an engine that knocked and stopped.

FAQ

Kia roadside questions

My Kia was broken into and now will not start.

Common on the older models that shipped without an immobiliser. The ignition or column is usually damaged, so it is a tow and then a locksmith or dealer, not a jumpstart. Say break-in on the call. If your car has not had the free security software update, that is worth arranging afterwards.

The engine knocked and shut off. Now what?

Stop trying to restart it. Certain Kia engines have a documented sudden-failure pattern and many are covered by extended warranty programmes, and repeated cranking can make both the repair and the claim worse. It goes on a bed.

How is an EV6 moved?

Flatbed, all four wheels off the ground. It cannot be rolled in neutral once fully dead. And if the car seems completely lifeless, check the small 12V battery before assuming the worst about the traction pack.
