Need Roadside Assistance For Your Mack?
More of these break down on a job site than on a highway, often with a loaded body on the back. That changes the recovery completely and it changes what has to roll out to you.

Mack roadside help, dispatched nationwide
Road Rescue Network dispatches 24/7 mobile heavy repair and towing for Mack. A large share of the fleet is vocational: mixers, dumps, refuse and construction. Those trucks fail on unpaved ground, frequently loaded, and the recovery has to account for both. Powertrain and aftertreatment behaviour is shared with Volvo Trucks, which our techs know well.
Who builds a Mack, and why it changes the rescue
Mack builds vocational trucks in Pennsylvania under the Volvo Group, and its customers run mixers, dumps and refuse rather than long haul sleepers. A loaded vocational body changes everything about a recovery. The centre of gravity is high, the load often cannot be removed, and the scene is as likely to be a job site as a shoulder.

What a rescuer has to know before they roll on a Mack
These are the things that go wrong when a Mack gets whichever truck was closest instead of the right one.
A loaded vocational body changes everything
A mixer with concrete going off in the drum, a dump loaded with aggregate, or a packed refuse body are all far heavier than the truck's tare weight and none of them can simply be set down. What is on the back and whether it can be discharged are the first questions, because they decide the equipment and sometimes the whole plan.
They break down where there is no pavement
Job sites, quarries, transfer stations and access roads. The recovery unit has to reach the truck, work on ground that may not support it, and get out again with the load still aboard.
Shared powertrain with Volvo Trucks
Engines and aftertreatment are closely related, so derate behaviour and the automated transmission both read the same to a tech familiar with either. That is good news for parts and for diagnosis.
The two heavy-truck rules still apply
No air means the spring brakes are applied and have to be caged, and most front-end tows want the driveshaft removed first.
The Mack calls we take
Vocational recovery
Loaded mixers, dumps and refuse bodies recovered from unpaved ground with equipment sized to the real weight.
Aftertreatment and DEF
Fluid, forced regenerations and derate faults addressed on-site.
Air system repair
Leaks located and repaired so the truck can move under its own power.
Tire service and jumpstarts
Heavy tire positions including inside duals, and battery banks tested rather than only jumped.
How a Mack has to be moved
Worth reading to whoever shows up, whether or not we sent them.
Cage the spring brakes before moving a truck with no air, and pull the driveshaft for most front-end tows. On vocational trucks the load on the back is the deciding factor: say what body it has, whether it is loaded and whether it can be discharged, because that determines the equipment and sometimes whether the load has to be dealt with first.

Mack roadside questions
My mixer broke down with a full drum. What happens?
That is the first thing to tell dispatch. A loaded drum is a great deal of weight that cannot simply be parked, and concrete going off changes the urgency completely. It decides the equipment sent and sometimes means dealing with the load before the truck.
Can you get to a truck on a job site?
Usually, but the ground matters. Tell us the surface, the distance from pavement and whether the truck is loaded, because the recovery unit has to support itself out there and get back out with your truck behind it.
The truck derated on the highway.
Normally an aftertreatment issue rather than engine damage. Fluid level, fluid quality or a filter that cannot regenerate account for most, and those are handled in place.

Mack down right now?
One number reaches a live dispatcher. Tell them the model and what it is doing, and the truck that leaves is the one that can actually take your car.
