Mazda Roadside

Need Roadside Assistance For Your Mazda?

Mostly straightforward cars with two specifics worth naming: all-wheel drive on nearly everything with a CX badge, and a Miata that a careless strap will damage.

What This Is

Mazda roadside help, dispatched nationwide

Road Rescue Network dispatches 24/7 roadside help for Mazda. The crossovers are increasingly all-wheel drive as standard, which decides the towing method, and the MX-5 is light and low enough that how it is secured matters more than how it is lifted.

The Vehicle

Who builds a Mazda, and why it changes the rescue

Mazda has kept its own engineering rather than sharing platforms widely, and the rotary engined RX models are a genuinely different machine from anything else on the road. A rotary that will not start floods easily, and the way it is handled at the roadside decides whether it starts later at all.

Why A Mazda Is Different

What a rescuer has to know before they roll on a Mazda

These are the things that go wrong when a Mazda gets whichever truck was closest instead of the right one.

All-wheel drive is standard on most of the CX range now

CX-50 and CX-90 are all-wheel drive across the board and CX-5 very often is, so the default answer is a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground rather than a wheel lift. Owners who last towed a front-drive Mazda are frequently surprised.

A Miata is secured by the wheels, never over the body

The MX-5 is light, low, and on soft-top cars there is fabric where other cars have steel. Straps go over the tires or to designated points, never across the top or through the bodywork, and the low nose needs a shallow approach angle onto the bed.

Repair kits have replaced spares on much of the range

Many Mazdas carry sealant and a compressor rather than a wheel. That covers a nail and not a sidewall, and the larger wheel sizes on higher trims are not carried on every truck.

The turbo engines want the right fuel to make their numbers

Turbocharged Mazdas make their headline output on premium and simply make less on regular. It is not a breakdown, but it is worth knowing before somebody diagnoses a power complaint on the roadside as a fault.

What We Handle

The Mazda calls we take

Towing

Flatbed for all-wheel-drive models and for the MX-5, with a shallow approach and wheel straps on the roadster.

Flat tire

Sealant where the puncture allows, or a correct-size tire brought out where the car carries no spare.

Jumpstart, lockout and fuel

Jump and battery replacement, lockouts opened without damage, and fuel delivered to the vehicle.

Winch-out and recovery

Snow, ditches and soft shoulders, taken from rated points.

Before The Truck Arrives

How a Mazda has to be moved

Worth reading to whoever shows up, whether or not we sent them.

All-wheel-drive Mazdas belong on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. Front-wheel-drive Mazda3 and CX-30 can be moved with the drive wheels lifted. An MX-5 goes on a bed with a shallow approach, secured by the wheels rather than over the body, and never with anything run across a soft top.

FAQ

Mazda roadside questions

Does my CX-5 need a flatbed?

If it is all-wheel drive, yes, all four wheels off the ground. A lot of the current crossover range is all-wheel drive as standard, so the flatbed is the safe default unless you know for certain yours is front-wheel drive.

How should my Miata be loaded?

On a bed, with a shallow approach because the nose is low, and secured by the wheels or the designated points. Nothing should be run over a soft top. It is a light car and it is easy to do well and easy to mark up if someone rushes it.

Is there a spare in my Mazda?

Often not, just sealant and a compressor. That will get you off the road with a nail in the tread and will do nothing for a cut sidewall. Read the size off the tire when you call and a matching one can be brought to you.
