Peterbilt Roadside

Need Roadside Assistance For Your Peterbilt?

Aluminium cab, long hood on the classics, and an owner who usually paid for it themselves. Recovery on a Peterbilt is done from the frame, not from anything shiny.

What This Is

Peterbilt roadside help, dispatched nationwide

Road Rescue Network dispatches 24/7 mobile heavy repair and towing for Peterbilt. Mechanically much of the range shares PACCAR power and aftertreatment with Kenworth, so the derate behaviour is the same. What is specific to Peterbilt is the bodywork and the proportions, both of which affect how a truck gets recovered.

The Vehicle

Who builds a Peterbilt, and why it changes the rescue

Peterbilt builds in Denton, Texas under Paccar and has sold on owner operator appeal for decades. The aluminium cab, and the money an owner puts into paint, trim and chrome, change the brief for a rescuer. Hook placement that would be routine on a fleet truck can cost thousands here, so the underlift and the tie down points get chosen before the wrecker moves.

Why A Peterbilt Is Different

What a rescuer has to know before they roll on a Peterbilt

These are the things that go wrong when a Peterbilt gets whichever truck was closest instead of the right one.

Aluminium cab, and recovery that has to respect it

Peterbilt cabs are aluminium. Strong where designed, expensive where creased. Recovery load goes through rated frame points, and an operator hooking a cab structure or a fairing is costing the owner more than the tow.

Long-hood trucks handle and load differently

A 389 puts a lot of length and weight ahead of the front axle, which changes lifting geometry and where a wrecker has to sit. It is not difficult, it is just not the same as a 579, and an operator should know which is coming.

PACCAR aftertreatment derates on fluid and filters

MX-powered trucks derate over exhaust fluid level and quality, or an exhaust filter that cannot complete a regeneration. Fluid, a forced regen or a sensor is usually the whole job, and it is done on the shoulder.

The same two heavy-truck rules apply

No air means the spring brakes are applied and have to be caged before the truck will roll, and most front-end tows need the driveshaft pulled first so the transmission is not turned dry.

What We Handle

The Peterbilt calls we take

Aftertreatment and DEF

Fluid delivered, forced regenerations and derate faults addressed at the roadside.

Tire service

Heavy towing and recovery

Caged brakes, driveline pulled where needed, recovery taken from rated frame points.

Before The Truck Arrives

How a Peterbilt has to be moved

Worth reading to whoever shows up, whether or not we sent them.

Spring brakes must be caged before a truck with no air will move. Most front-end tows require the driveshaft to be removed. On a Peterbilt, recovery load goes through rated frame points and never through the aluminium cab or the fairings. Long-hood models change the lifting geometry, so name the model at dispatch.

FAQ

Peterbilt roadside questions

Will recovery damage my cab?

Not if it goes through rated frame points, which is where it belongs. The cab is aluminium and the fairings are not structural. If someone is hooking to bodywork, stop them.

The truck derated. Can it be fixed here?

Usually. PACCAR derates are normally exhaust fluid level or quality, or a filter that cannot regenerate. Fluid and a forced regeneration handle most of them at the roadside.

Does a 389 need a different wrecker than a 579?

It can. There is a lot more length and weight ahead of the front axle on a long-hood truck, which changes the lifting geometry and where the wrecker has to sit. Say the model when you call.
