Volkswagen roadside help, dispatched nationwide
Road Rescue Network dispatches 24/7 roadside help for Volkswagen. Most calls are ordinary and quick. The ones that go wrong go wrong for two reasons: a dead car that will not roll because the electronic parking brake is holding it, and a TDI that has run its exhaust fluid out and stopped itself on purpose.
Who builds a VW, and why it changes the rescue
Volkswagen builds most of its current range on shared modular platforms, which means a Golf, a Tiguan and an ID.4 have more in common underneath than their bodies suggest. The electric models are the exception that matters, because the ID range carries its pack in the floor and must not be towed on its driven wheels.
Volkswagen, commonly abbreviated to VW, is a German automobile brand based in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. Established in 1937 by the German Labour Front, it was revived after World War II by British Army officer Ivan Hirst and, over the 81 years since, grew into the global brand it is today. As of 2025, the company had a market capitalization of approximately US$58.9 billion. The brand is well known for the Beetle and serves as the flagship brand of its eponymous conglomerate, the Volkswagen Group, which was the world's largest automotive manufacturer by global sales in 2016 and 2017.Volkswagen on Wikipedia

What a rescuer has to know before they roll on a VW
These are the things that go wrong when a VW gets whichever truck was closest instead of the right one.
A dead VW will not roll onto the truck
With no power the electronic parking brake stays applied and the shifter will not release. The car cannot be pushed or winched on normally and needs skates or the model's transport procedure. Saying the car is completely dead at dispatch is what gets the right equipment sent.
TDI diesels count down to a no-start
Exhaust fluid runs low, the car warns, then it limits starts and eventually refuses. Mechanically nothing is wrong. Fluid delivered to the car and a restart on-site normally ends the call.
4Motion models want all four wheels up
All-wheel-drive Tiguans, Atlases and Golf R models belong on a flatbed. Front-drive versions exist in the same lines, so we ask rather than assume.
A repair kit where the spare used to be
Most current VWs carry sealant and a compressor. That handles a nail in the tread and does nothing for a sidewall, and larger trims run sizes not carried on every truck.
ID.4 follows the EV rules
Flatbed only, no rolling neutral when fully dead, and a small 12V battery that is the usual cause of a car that appears completely lifeless.
The VW calls we take
Towing a dead car that will not release
Skates or the correct transport procedure where the electronic parking brake is holding the wheels.
AdBlue delivery and diesel no-start
Fluid brought to the vehicle with a restart attempt on the spot.
Flat tire
Sealant where the puncture allows it, or a correct-size tire brought to the vehicle.
Jumpstart and battery
Jump, load test and on-site replacement.
Lockout and fuel delivery
Opened without damage, and fuel brought to the vehicle.
How a VW has to be moved
Worth reading to whoever shows up, whether or not we sent them.
4Motion and ID models belong on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. Front-wheel-drive cars can be moved with the drive wheels lifted. A completely dead VW will not roll, because the electronic parking brake stays applied and the shifter will not release, so plan for skates.
Volkswagen models we cover

Commuters and families, plus TDI owners who keep them for the range and occasionally discover what happens when the fluid runs out. Every rescuer carries current general liability insurance and works to standardised response and pricing practices.

VW roadside questions
My VW is dead and will not roll. Is something seized?
No. With no power the electronic parking brake stays on and the shifter will not come out of park. It is normal and it means the rescuer needs skates or the transport procedure for your model. Tell dispatch the car is completely dead.
My TDI will not restart and says AdBlue.
Running the diesel exhaust fluid out makes the car refuse to restart by design. A rescuer brings enough to clear the lockout, fills it and restarts it there. One small bottle from a gas station usually is not enough.
Is there a spare in my Tiguan?
Usually a sealant kit rather than a wheel. That fixes a nail and not a cut sidewall. Read the size off the tire when you call and a matching one can be brought out.

VW down right now?
One number reaches a live dispatcher. Tell them the model and what it is doing, and the truck that leaves is the one that can actually take your car.
