Volvo roadside help, dispatched nationwide
Road Rescue Network dispatches 24/7 roadside help for Volvo. The range is heavily all-wheel drive and increasingly electrified, so the flatbed is the default rather than the exception, and the plug-in Recharge models carry a battery under the floor that decides both the tow method and where a jack can safely go.
Who builds a Volvo, and why it changes the rescue
Volvo Cars has built its reputation on structural safety, and modern ones use very high strength steel through the passenger cell. That is excellent in a collision and unhelpful with a cutting tool, so extrication and even aggressive recovery on these is work for people who know where the reinforcement runs.
Volvo Car AB, trading as Volvo Cars, is a Swedish multinational manufacturer of luxury vehicles. Volvo is headquartered in Torslanda, Gothenburg. The company manufactures SUVs, station wagons, and sedans. The company's main marketing revolves around safety and its Swedish heritage and design.Volvo on Wikipedia

What a rescuer has to know before they roll on a Volvo
These are the things that go wrong when a Volvo gets whichever truck was closest instead of the right one.
All-wheel drive on most of the range
XC90, XC60 and XC40 are usually all-wheel drive, which means all four wheels off the ground. Front-drive versions exist, so we confirm, but the bed is the safe default.
Recharge plug-in hybrids carry a battery under the floor
That makes them flatbed vehicles and it makes jack points something to get right rather than guess. It also means a Recharge that will not wake up is usually a flat 12V rather than a traction-battery problem.
Boron steel structure is unforgiving of a careless hook
The safety cage is very strong and very specific about where load can be taken. Straps and hooks go to designated points. This is a vehicle where improvising a recovery point tends to bend something expensive rather than give.
No spare, and a repair kit instead
Most carry sealant. Sidewall damage means a correct-size tire brought to the vehicle, and the larger wheels are not stocked on a general truck.
The Volvo calls we take
Flatbed transport
All four wheels off the ground for all-wheel-drive and electrified models, secured at designated points.
Jumpstart and battery
Jump and on-site replacement, including the 12V on Recharge models which is the usual culprit.
Flat tire
Correct-size tires brought to the vehicle where sealant will not do it.
Lockout, fuel and winch-outs
Opened without damage, fuel delivered, and recovery from snow and soft ground taken from rated points.
How a Volvo has to be moved
Worth reading to whoever shows up, whether or not we sent them.
All-wheel-drive and electrified Volvos belong on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. Front-wheel-drive models can be moved with the drive wheels lifted. On Recharge models the battery sits under the floor, so jack and securing points are the designated ones, not wherever fits.

Volvo roadside questions
Does my XC90 need a flatbed?
If it is all-wheel drive or a Recharge plug-in, yes, all four wheels off the ground. Most of the range is one or the other, so the bed is the safe assumption unless you know yours is front-wheel drive.
My Recharge will not turn on at all.
That is nearly always the small 12V battery rather than the high-voltage pack. It runs the computers and the doors, and when it dies the car appears completely dead. A jump usually brings it back.
Is there a spare in the back?
Normally a sealant kit rather than a wheel. That handles a puncture in the tread and not a cut sidewall, so if the tire is damaged we bring a matching one out.

Volvo down right now?
One number reaches a live dispatcher. Tell them the model and what it is doing, and the truck that leaves is the one that can actually take your car.
