Why heavy equipment gets fixed on the jobsite, not in a shop

When a hydraulic hose lets go on an excavator, the machine is not the only thing that stops. The trucks waiting to be loaded stop, the grade crew behind it stops, and the concrete pour scheduled for Thursday slides to Monday. That is the arithmetic nobody outside the industry sees: the repair itself is usually the smallest line item on the day, and idle labor plus a blown schedule is the rest of it. Field service exists to compress the window between the moment the machine goes down and the moment it is turning dirt again, because every hour in between is billed to somebody whether or not any work gets done. Hose size, pressure rating and fittings

A short half-inch two-wire hose with common JIC ends is the least expensive assembly in the category.
