Can you really build a hydraulic hose at my jobsite?+

The old assembly is measured for length, inside diameter, and end type, a new one is built to match, and it is crimped with the correct die so it holds at rated pressure. Most single-hose calls are finished within an hour of the technician reaching the machine.
What should I do the second a hose blows?+
Shut the machine down and stop cycling the function — running a machine on a ruptured line pumps the reservoir dry and pushes contamination through the system. Lower or block any raised implement so nothing can drift down on someone. Keep everyone clear of the spray, since pressurized hydraulic fluid can inject through skin and that is a genuine surgical emergency, not a minor burn. Then photograph both fitting ends and send them to dispatch so the truck rolls with the right adapters.
How do you keep dirt out of the system when you open it on site?+
Deliberately. Fittings are cleaned before they are broken, every open port and line end gets capped or plugged immediately, the new assembly is blown clear before it goes on, and the system is topped off with the correct fluid rather than whatever is closest. Contamination is the reason a cheap field repair sometimes turns into an expensive pump failure two months later, so this is the part of the job we do not rush.
What can be welded on site and what has to go to a shop?+
Cracked buckets and cutting edges, broken thumb and attachment mounts, torn quick-coupler ears, damaged guards and steps, and most bracket and structural cracks are routine field welds. What goes to a shop is anything needing controlled preheat and post-weld heat treatment, certified structural or code work with documentation requirements, and major boom or frame sections where the machine has to be jigged to hold alignment. Constantly. Rental equipment breaks in the field more than owned equipment does, and the rental branch is usually too far away to help the same day. Some routes add escort vehicles, daylight-only travel, or a specified routing. Average dispatch-to-arrival on heavy-equipment field calls runs around 58 minutes, which is genuinely longer than passenger roadside because the trucks are specialized, the sites are farther out, and the technician has to arrive with the right consumables to finish in one trip. In dense metro and industrial corridors it is frequently under 40. On remote sites, in mountain and rural terrain, or during a weather event it can run past two hours, and dispatch quotes you the real number rather than an optimistic one.
